CoolSculpting involves the use of cold temperatures to destroy fat cells.
CoolSculpting is a minimally invasive treatment that works by destroying fat cells by means of a cooling process. The cooling process, known as cryolipolysis, freezes and breaks down fat cells without damaging the surrounding tissue. In the months following treatment, the dead fat cells are absorbed by the body and filtered out as waste. So, how long does it take to see the results of the procedure? And what can you expect from the process? Read on to find out more about CoolSculpting and what the treatment involves…
What does the process involve?
The process of CoolSculpting does not involve the use of needles or incisions. Instead, a specially designed handheld device is applied to the target area. This device administers controlled cooling to the site of treatment, which in turn breaks down the fatty tissue. Energy is extracted from the layers of fat, causing the fat cells to die gradually over time. These fat cells then move to the lymphatic system and are eventually filtered out of the body as waste.
The procedure itself is not painful, although you may feel sensations of pulling and pinching as the handheld device is moved over your skin. Depending on the site of treatment, as well as your personal aesthetic goals, a treatment session can take anywhere between one and three hours to complete.
What areas can be treated?
CoolSculpting can be used to get rid of fat cells in various areas of the body. Some of the most common sites of treatment include the abdomen, inner and outer thighs, arms, chin, back, buttocks and love handles. It is important to note that CoolSculpting is not a weight loss treatment. Rather, it is a body contouring process that helps to reduce fat in specific areas of the body. It is ideal for patients who are at a healthy and stable body weight but are suffering from stubborn areas of fat that have proven resistant to diet and exercise. The reality is that even after responsible weight loss, the amount of fat cells in your body remains the same — for this reason, CoolSculpting can help to reduce fat cells and achieve a more pleasing body shape as fat cells are permanently eliminated from your body.
What can you expect after treatment?
One of the main advantages of CoolSculpting is that is a non-surgical, minimally invasive process. This means that there is no downtime following treatment, and most patients are able to carry on with their normal activities immediately after the procedure. You might, however, notice some mild tenderness or redness at the sites of treatment, but these side effects will resolve with time.
You may be able to notice the results of your treatment within around three weeks following the procedure. After around two to three months, the results will become even more visible, and the complete fat-flushing process will continue for up to six months. In some cases, you might be advised to have multiple CoolSculpting sessions in order to achieve optimal results.
